Thirty One Summer Spring 2015 Retirement List

"Tis every season, turn, turn, turn."  I cannot get that song out of my head despite the going, going, gone in bold on top of the retirement list Thirty-One has shared.  There are so many great prints and styles retiring making way for new products.  The patriotic print on the left has become a favorite of mine and soon will no longer be available.
The clear and zip pocket-a tote are retiring also with no replacement.
And for those of us who love the cinch top bins for all our little organizing needs and clutter busters, this too is disappearing.

Here is a list of everything that will be retiring come July 31, 2015 or until supplies last: Spring/Summer 2015 Retire List

But wait until you see some of the NEW products coming!  Oh my!

For your home, notice the NEW Chalk-It Up Cube that you can personalize over and over again.

For you, this new tote has 7 pockets!

For utility, can you imagine the possibilities with this bin?  Kids toys, laundry, balls in the garage, storing blankets and pillows, and much more.  I cannot wait to order this bin!

As always you can order HERE and feel free to contact me with questions at any time.  Be blessed. ~ Wendi

Why Love is My Favorite Word and Embracing It in Difficulty

I may not agree, understand, embrace all changes (man bun clip on?) but I will love you and I will show Jesus' love to you.  John 4:1-26, Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well, a woman married 5 times and now living with a man, she was considered dirty.  Many came to believe and know his love because he did not judge her, he offered her life and she was so filled she had to share with others (John 4:39-42).  As Christians we are not called to judge but we can hold in accountability, however remember in the greatest of trials, when you don't understand, when you feel condemned, when you don't understand, when you are frustrated with a person's actions or words we have so many great scriptures to meditate on.

Cor 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Lev 19:18 "You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord."

Luke 10:27 He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Mat 22:39 "And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Struggles with accepting gay marriage, sexual sins of someone you know,  you child has wronged you, your friend is committing adultery, you witness racism, whatever, as Christians we can lie our burdens at the feet of GOD and he can carry it and deal with it.  We can love the other person showing GOD's grace and in honesty  reveal scriptures that support behaviors keeping them from the best GOD has to offer and rewards in Heaven, but ultimately our job is to love, not to judge, and be the hands and feet of Christ.  Christ was not in pew and a one day week lover, he showed mercy, favor, and compassion 24/7.  Be love today.

Why I Chose To Have Septoplasty (Deviated Septum Surgery)

For as long as I can remember I could not breathe out of my right nostril as I could out of my left.  Very rarely would air pass through and I would think, "that is different" or "cool".  My finger couldn't get up my right side of my nose, no worries, I had another side to pick.  Those menial thoughts were my lone considerations of a youth plagued by sinus headaches, sinus infections, and random bloody noses.  Bloody noses in high school were not fun especially during a test when everyone was quiet and blood would drip down out of nowhere.  I felt like everyone was looking at me thinking I was picking my nose and made it bleed.  It was embarrassing and I didn't know why it was happening. No one had used the words deviated septum, I knew allergies and I felt weird and allergic to life as my symptoms were lethargy, fatigue, headaches, swollen eyes, nose bleeds, and decreased concentration.  Then occasional respiratory issues.
My swollen eyelid and shaffing

When I became a nurse, deviated septum became to mean something to me.  I understood the septum was blocking my sinus cavities causing those symptoms.  For years I applied nasal sprays to alleviate allergy symptoms and sprays to help keep nasal passages clear, not too dry, and perfect little passageways.  The kicker is my septum was against my nasal wall and these sprays weren't very effective.  By the time my ENT doctor scoped by nose (nasal endoscope) he could not pass the scope after applying his shrinking and numbing medicines due to the severe deviation.  If you are wondering, this is done in the office, is painless, and takes 2 minutes.  I even watched on the monitor as he did it and I have impeccably clean nasal passages.

Little video that shows how even when I take a deep breath, I cannot get any air through my right nostril.

Why didn't any of my previous allergists, primary care doctors, ENTs suggest this?  It would have saved a lot of money on ineffective medicines, antibiotics for sinusitis after sinusitis, and countless sinus headaches.  Although medications like Flonase can help stop the cascading effect of allergens, if the medication cannot get into your nasal passage and is blocked, it cannot work.  After discussing the pros and cons with my ENT doctor and learning he does anywhere from 5 to 10 of these a week I felt very confident in my next step and gladly signed up for the surgery and am writing this 3 days after.  In another post I will write about the surgery, know that this was a great decision for me and I am healing well with minimal pain.

Piper Patience

Having a dog means I have plenty of messes, especially when she was younger.  From destroyed toys, her fascination with glasses and their demise, how all things that smell like me must be chewed into small bits, and unopened packages are her domain.

We have come quite a long way but she still loves shoes, socks, and glasses.

I would not trade her for one moment because she is patient with my lack of proper training and I get all these snuggles.

Sensitive Skin Laundry Detergent in Bulk

Money saved is spent on things I truly enjoy, like vacations, time with friends and family, photography, hobbies, not laundry. Laundry is one of those chores I can do super fast because I fold quickly, my appliances are HE, and until my aunt gave me one last month, I did not own an iron. (The iron by the way, is not for clothes, but for crafts.) When I considered all the money I was spending on detergent, I thought why?I have never found a detergent I really loved. Recently making the switch to vinegar for laundry softener I was already convinced there might be something to the homemade/Pinterest way of Laundry Frugality. Looking for one for sensitive skin and for HE machines I came across so many cocktails, my head was spinning.

Making my own revision and crossing some fingers, I came up with a mix that works.
Eventually, I made my own washing soda from a recipe, as I had a large baking soda bag from Sam's Club already. All these items can easily be found at your nearest WalMart, Target, Amazon.com, or Sam's Club (if you want to buy with a friend or have 9 kids). Don't worry, I did convert for those of you who don't buy in bulk like I do.  I spent less than $15 on my first batch back in January, it is now May and I have even given some away to my sister and mom to see how it would work on a regular unit. Success! My nephew and niece's sensitive skin did not break out and my family asked for the recipe also. Coming from this seborrheic (sensitive skin) and asthmatic, the detergent does not bother me at all. From the chick who loves to save money, I will NEVER buy detergent again. Having at least a few more months left, I have never had cleaner clothes, with less color wear, and better grease fighting than with my mix.

Sensitive Skin Laundry Detergent in Bulk
8 1/3 c baking soda (4lb box)
5.5 c washing soda (3lb 7oz box)
3 bars fels-naptha
1 box borax (4lb 12oz box)

Directions:
  1. Shave the Fels-Naptha (I used my salad shooter)
  2. In a large bag or container mix all ingredients (I used a ziploc storage bag)
  3. Store in an air tight environment (Washing soda becomes baking soda when exposed to moisture)
  4. 1tbs for HE machine, 2tbs for regular washer
  5. Sit back, and count your dollars because you just saved money
before mixing
all shook up

I know some people cannot tolerate Fels-Naptha or the borax, but in this large mix, it was so reminiscent of my childhood and I tolerate it very well.  For my essential oil lovers, I have read many posts of people who add oils into their detergent.  Let me know how it goes for you.

**UPDATE**

Considering it has been over 3.5 years since I updated this blog, I figured I would let you know about my changes.
I now use 1 package of Oxyclean in my mix as I am married and my husband is rough on his clothes.  I find myself with the same clothes I had when I made this original post (3 years ago)!  Maybe I do need a wardrobe redo, but they are in great shape and I mentioned, I am cheap on some things.  I also now mix in a 5lb bucket.  It is so much easier to roll that thing around and have a good mix.  My fabric softener is a Downy ball with vinegar in it- you cannot smell the vinegar and the clothes are softer with no residue!
